Bareilly: A two-day Coloproctology Conference and Training Workshop will be held at SRMS Medical College on September 12 and 13, bringing together around 40 leading surgeons from across the country to discuss advanced approaches for treating diseases of the anus and large intestine.
The conference is being organised by the Department of General, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery at SRMS Medical College in association with the Bareilly Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India. More than 275 delegates and postgraduate students have registered for the programme.
Chairman of the conference and Head of the Department, Dr SK Sagar, said the event would provide doctors and trainees with exposure to contemporary surgical techniques, including the evaluation and practical application of robotic surgery. A live operative workshop will also be conducted, with surgical procedures broadcast from the operation theatre to the auditorium and conference hall for academic training.
As part of the initiative, 20 patients suffering from various anorectal conditions will receive free surgical treatment.
The conference will also include training in laser-based procedures for conditions such as piles, fissures, fistulas and pilonidal sinus. Senior experts associated with the International Society of Coloproctology, including its president Dr LD Ladukar, secretary Dr Neeraj Goyal and other specialists from across India, will participate.
Dr Amit Singh, conference secretary and treasurer of the ASI Bareilly Chapter, said this is the first coloproctology conference being organised in Bareilly and the Rohilkhand region. He said the programme aims to familiarise local surgeons with modern treatment methods so that patients in the region can benefit from advanced care.
Senior surgeon Dr IS Tomar will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his distinguished services, while senior Ayurvedic surgeon Dr Lalta Prasad will also be honoured.
SRMS Medical College Principal Air Marshal (Retd) Dr MS Butola said conferences and workshops were an important part of the institution’s efforts to connect advances in medical research and technology with patient care. He said more than 18 CME programmes and workshops had already been organised at the institution this year.
